Stainless Nitronic® 60
Nitronic 60 is known for its excellent galling resistance, even at elevated temperatures. The additions of 4% silicon and 8% manganese inhibit wear, galling, and fretting. It is commonly used for various fasteners and pins that require strength and resistance to galling. It maintains good strength up to temperatures of 1800°F and has oxidation resistance similar to that of 309 stainless steel. The general corrosion resistance is between that of 304 and 316 stainless steel.
In demanding applications where friction and contact are unavoidable, Nitronic 60 provides reliable resistance to wear, galling, and fretting due to its intentional alloying with silicon and manganese. These properties make it especially effective for components such as fasteners, bushings, shafts, and valve stems, where metal-to-metal contact can lead to premature failure in other stainless grades. Its ability to maintain smooth operation in sliding and load-bearing conditions makes it a dependable choice for applications requiring consistent performance under mechanical stress.
Nitronic 60 also performs well in elevated temperature environments, maintaining strength up to 1800°F (982°C) while offering oxidation resistance comparable to 309 stainless steel. Although its general corrosion resistance falls between 304 and 316 stainless steels, it delivers a balanced combination of durability, temperature resistance, and mechanical stability in a wide range of industrial environments. While machining can be more demanding than standard stainless grades, proper tooling and setup allow Nitronic 60 to be processed effectively while retaining its desirable in-service properties.
